Nostalgia is a bittersweet longing for things, persons, or situations of the past. Translated into dance, Momentum Dance Toronto’s (MDT) versatile dancers and choreographers took this season to explore all of the things we hold so dear to us – relationships, childhood memories, family, music, hobbies and even hardships. Indeed, every one of us has a past with stories to tell.
Along the way, MDT’s mixed program NOSTALGIA also touches on themes of: belonging, child’s play, love, loss of a loved one, depression, unity, lust, overcoming obstacles and good ol’ fashion fun. These ideas are physicalized through a series of choreographies, emphasized by the telling of personal reflections. These reflections can be as simple and as light as the joy and adventures of swimming, to the more serious nature of heartbreak and pain.
MDT invites you to share in the journeys of our past and to experience physical recreations on stage that examine the way we have been affected by our nostalgia.
